Recently, IPAC Canada has partnered with a number of other national organizations, such as the Public Health Agency of Canada, the Canadian Institute for Health Information, and CPSI, which is the Canadian Patient Safety Institute. We started out with one day of information sharing around how we currently collect data on health care associated infections and antimicrobial-resistant organisms, and there was a bunch of back and forth over a period of months about whose data was more accurate, because everybody is collecting it differently and using different definitions and different data collection methodologies.
At the end of it, just as recently as last week, we all agreed that we all have pieces of the puzzle that are strengths. If we can collaborate more and use the infrastructure and the resources that currently exist—that's not to say they will be adequate, and an infusion of funding would be required—we do have a lot of good work going on. It's just a matter of bringing those disparate pieces together.
