The first Jobs, Growth and Long-term Prosperity Act permitted certain public sector investment pools to invest directly in Canadian financial institutions to provide access to stable long-term investment.

Finance committee  Well, we said in the legislation that public pools of capital won't be able to nominate any employees or directors to the board of directors of the financial institution. The reason for this is to limit the influence the public rules of capital will have on the management of a financial institution.

Finance committee  Indeed, the eligible agents have the right to vote here given that they have the right to hold shares. This privilege comes with a right to vote. Likewise, other agencies that would have the right to hold shares would have exactly the same privilege to hold a right to vote. This is consistent with other principles of the legislation.
