Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee The economy was based mostly on agriculture as soon as Iraq became a country. Before that, the Yazidis were living a peaceful life with the Assyrians, with the Armenians. It was the same thing; life was based mostly on agriculture.

Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee They grew vegetables, wheat, and livestock. Nobody went against one another. Unfortunately, as I said, after the Muslims conquered the Middle East, we were being attacked.

Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee In the last 10 months or so, most of the Iraqi borders are being controlled by the Iraqi government and the KRG, so how were these people able to be transferred? We know Mosul has been taken with the support of air strikes, like the border, like the Sinjar region, which has been taken for more than a year now.

Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee Now the majority is in Iraq, but just recently, they are trying to transfer them to Syria, where ISIS is still much in control. They know they are getting defeated in Iraq, so they're trying to.... Before Iraq is under full control, they are trying to send them to friendly Islamic countries....

Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee Yes, they can be located by officials. Most of the displaced Yazidis are in the governorate of Dohuk, which is close to the Yazidi region. Southern Dohuk is a part of the Yazidi homeland, which includes Sharya and Khanik. As for the rest, it's the Yazidi IDP camp in Sulaymaniyah.

Citizenship and Immigration committee They need international support to create a safe zone for the Assyrian Christians. We hope Canada will provide them with military training. We have more than...at least now in Sinjar. There are two Yazidi forces. We have 10,000 to 15,000 men and women who are protecting their lands and families with the Christians.

Citizenship and Immigration committee The Yazidis have no problem at all in integrating into a different society. I think that the Yazidis, almost like a nation, are the most open-minded to live with others just as a brotherhood. The Yazidis would have no problem at all in integrating into Canadian society, as we did.

Citizenship and Immigration committee With the situation of the IDPs, especially when it comes to humanity, order, and medical treatment, they're in a very dire situation. The problem at the organizational level is hard. Whether it's our organization, or his, or any other organization, it's difficult trying to provide medical treatment to those, especially women, who are traumatized while escaping from ISIS.

Citizenship and Immigration committee What the UN is doing? Actually the UN is not giving equal rights and we hope that Canada could recognize that and Canada could give, like my colleague said, a quota to the Yazidis.
