Environment committee  I'm good.

February 27th, 2019Committee meeting

Joe Peschisolido

Environment committee  For one last thing, maybe we'll go back to Wayne or Mike to finish up. You talked about the examples in Washington state. There were two referendums and both failed. What were the similarities and the differences between those two models and what the Canadian government is proposing?

Environment committee  Mr. Chair, thank you. I can't remember if it was Massimo or Geoff, but one of the concepts you brought up that we haven't discussed is carbon offset as it relates to your industry. Can you elaborate a bit?

Environment committee  I have one more question. Tom talked about two factors, the appropriate price, which is the level, and technological change. Are there technological changes that the existing refineries could make that would help their economic bottom line and also their ability to meet targets?

Environment committee  Peter, thank you. Joanna, you mentioned that putting a price on carbon or on pollution works. You talked about the development of other economic activity. You also talked about a company called Corvus. Can you elaborate on that? Are there other sprouts of economic activity in Canada analogous to Corvus?

Environment committee  Mr. Chair, thank you, Thank you very much for all your presentations and wise words. I'll begin with Peter. You talked about support for a mechanism to reduce carbon emissions. There are six principles, but you don't believe that the existing structure will work. Would there be any plan that you believe would work, that would reduce carbon and also maintain the economic effectiveness of your sector?

Joe Peschisolido

Environment committee  Thank you. Mr. Renou, you were talking about the importance of wood in construction. I'm assuming, then, that brick and mortar isn't as good. Why is that? How can the federal government play a role in getting more wood in houses?

Environment committee  Mr. Chair, thank you. I'd like to thank the witnesses for their very helpful testimony, but I must admit that while all of you were talking I was thinking to myself that perhaps I should have taken a few more biology and chemistry classes and maybe read a few more textbooks there.

Environment committee  I'm intrigued by your statement somewhere else that wood pellets are carbon-neutral. How would that work? You burn something and there's a chemical reaction—

Joe Peschisolido

Environment committee  You were talking about certain percentages of European countries—5%, 10%. What's our percentage of use of wood pellets?

Environment committee  Thank you, Mr. Chair.

December 4th, 2018Committee meeting

Joe Peschisolido

Environment committee  Outside of Sarnia, are there other examples, either in Canada or internationally, that we can look at as a template?

December 4th, 2018Committee meeting

Joe Peschisolido

Environment committee  Brian, you mentioned targets, or five goals. Agriculture can either be a carbon source or a carbon sink, either good or bad. Of your five targets, would there be one on each side that you can elaborate on that would, one, eliminate it as a source, and two, enhance it as a sink?
