United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act  Madam Speaker, this is another example of Liberal words not meeting their actions. It is another example of how the Liberals do not prioritize their actual work. I am going to talk about Six Nations and 1492 Land Back. We have heard the government talk about how it is committed to working collaboratively to address historical claims at Six Nations and how it is willing to work with the Haudenosaunee Confederacy Council.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, the NDP has been clear and consistent that we do not want to have an election during a pandemic and we do not intend on triggering one. We would have liked to see the Prime Minister take some responsibility and commit to the same. The hon. member talked about Bill C-19, but it only passed second reading on time allocation earlier this week.

Budget Implementation Act, 2021, No. 1  Madam Speaker, we have heard many Conservatives today bemoaning what has happened with the working class. This is newfound language the Conservatives have found with the working class, yet we have not heard any critiques whatsoever of the Liberal government's $750 billion Bay Street bailout.

Budget Implementation Act, 2021, No. 1  Mr. Speaker, surely the member for Brampton South is not suggesting that the paltry $500 one-time payment is lifting those seniors out of poverty. It is to the contrary. We know that for-profit long-term care facilities like Extendicare and Sienna received $157 million in support and paid out $74 million in dividends.

Offshore Health and Safety Act  Mr. Speaker, the hon. member for St. John's East laid out in very particular ways the way in which this government fixated on process but not outcomes. As a very learned legal mind himself, could the hon. member explain ways in which he feels we could have a deeper legislation that would result in better outcomes for workers in his community and Newfoundland?

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, it is very rare that we have the opportunity to have subject matter experts and have the good doctor present. His seminar was good. In his opening remarks, he talked about the experience he had with polio. I think about what the world would look like if the polio vaccine had patents on it.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, the hon. member for Winnipeg North would have us believe that as a federation, the federal government's only job is to ensure that the vaccines hit the shores. Yet we have, within the Emergency Act and the Public Health Act, the ability for the federal government to take national leadership on rollout.

The Budget  Mr. Speaker, the hon. member spoke lovingly about watching the historic moment with his daughters when Canada's first woman delivered a budget as Minister of Finance, yet while 5.5 million Canadian workers lost their jobs or had their hours cut, Canada's 47 billionaires made a record $78 billion during the pandemic.

Petitions  Mr. Speaker, as the haze of 420 settles, Canadians are still looking for justice. I am pleased to present petition e-2824, sponsored by Louder Together, which seeks to address the over-policing, the over-incarceration and the other disproportionate impacts that criminalization of cannabis has had on Black, indigenous and other racialized Canadians.

Housing  Madam Speaker, one of the most haunting aspects of my work in Hamilton Centre is receiving a call from a resident facing imminent eviction. I think about the countless renters in our city who are being forced out onto the streets each month by greedy landlords using “renovictions” and other dubious means to simply bring in new tenants and jack up the rent.

United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act  Mr. Speaker, the member's speech was nothing short of impressive. I followed his rights framework all the way until I got lost with Avatar. I thought maybe he was going to go full Jason Kenney and start talking about Bigfoot. Make no mistake: The brutal and violent genocide of indigenous peoples by successive French and British settlers in these lands is by no means a Hollywood story.

United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act  Mr. Speaker, I thank the hon. member for the earnestness in which he has supported the previous work of the very great and learned Mr. Romeo Saganash, a friend and mentor of mine, who provided the framework here. However, the hon. member for the Bloc raises some important questions.

Canada Labour Code  Mr. Speaker, in the second reading, I wanted to acknowledge just how critically important the care and compassion are that this legislation could provide for grieving families. I do not want to open up the debate in any way beyond directly asking the question. Would this also include families that would be grieving miscarriages?
