Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2020  Madam Speaker, I had the opportunity last week to connect with Lembi Buchanan and other volunteers with the Disability Tax Fairness Campaign, and they identified all the ways in which the disability tax credit leaves so many disabled Canadians out, by definition of the eligibility for the disability tax credit.

The Economy  Mr. Speaker, while average Canadians are on the brink of financial collapse, the fortunes of Canada's 44 billionaires have increased by $63 billion throughout this COVID pandemic. A modest 1% tax on personal wealth over $20 million would generate $10 billion a year to help pay for a just COVID recovery.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, time and again we have heard the Bloc members passionately arguing on behalf of their province, yet I would like to think that all members in the House would want to ensure that all people across the country would have a standard through which we could protect our seniors.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, we heard, in the hon. minister's comments, that the government is willing to do absolutely everything it can to protect Canadians. Pat Armstrong, a sociologist at York University who has studied Canada's long-term care homes for 30 years, firmly believes that Canada's dismal record stems from a historic decision to exclude long-term care facilities from Canada's networks of provincial and territorial public health systems.

Canada Pension Plan Investment Board Act  Madam Speaker, I would like to begin by just acknowledging the arguments put forward by my friend from the Bloc Québécois, who suggested that because he is a nice person, he would not want to suggest that this bill is somehow engaged in what he called “virtue signalling.” He raised some points around virtue signalling, and said that because he was nice, he would not say that.

Employment Insurance Act  Madam Speaker, as a critic, the member for Elmwood—Transcona provides such clarity and conscience to the recommendations and the work he does at committee. We heard him talk about the cruelty of the way this program has been set up to continue to exclude Canadians who have been absolutely excluded from this economy and from Liberal supports.

Climate Emergency Action Act  Madam Speaker, it is an honour to rise today in support of Bill C-232. It is not lost on me that in the crisis of this global pandemic, perhaps the crisis of climate change has been lost. I have deep gratitude for my caucus colleague for Winnipeg Centre. She has recentred the conversation on catastrophic climate change and the impacts it is going to have, undoubtedly, on society in the years very soon to come.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, there will perhaps be no more serious a vote than the one dealing with medical assistance in dying, and as New Democrats, we are very rarely in favour of closure. We have heard there is a consensus in this country, but I am not clear what country the minister is living in.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, the previous speaker brought up some really important points, particularly on the automation of filings. I cannot help but think about how much money goes unclaimed by our seniors every year simply because things are not automatically filed. We heard from the government that a couple of hundred piddling dollars to our seniors in the middle of a global pandemic was enough because they could rely on Liberal charity.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, it seems like every step along the way, the Liberal responses to a crisis are a dream deferred. The hon. member said she worked 20 years with seniors. She talked about them fearing poverty. The seniors in my community are facing poverty. What would she say to my seniors who are 65, who worked their entire lives waiting for retirement, who now have to hold on and struggle to the Liberals' definition at 74?
