Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Mr. Speaker, I am please to speak today on the Speech from the Throne and its implications for residents in the riding of Kenora and those across northern Ontario. Unfortunately, the Liberal government's speech made one thing exceedingly clear, and that is that it has no plan to guide our country through this pandemic.

Employment  Mr. Speaker, the Province of Ontario has announced $20 million to support northern Ontario businesses impacted by COVID-19, but FedNor is nowhere to be found. I have joined the calls of business owners in my riding, in Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie and across the north, who have been pleading for support for months.

Burgers to Beat MS  Mr. Speaker, I congratulate Randy Nickle and the entire team at Kenora's A&W; for raising over $27,000 for research and support for those living with MS. There are 77,000 Canadians who have MS. It is a chronic illness that affects the brain and spinal cord, causing pain and weakness as well as issues with vision, speech and coordination.

Northern Affairs  Mr. Speaker, the government's throne speech was short on details for the north. Many Canadians in my riding, across the territories and in other parts of northern Canada struggle with housing shortages, transportation difficulties and higher costs of goods and services. The north needs serious upgrades to infrastructure and transportation routes to ensure food security and lower the cost of living.

Canada Emergency Student Benefit Act  Mr. Speaker, I know all members of this House are focused on helping Canada get through this crisis as best as possible. We know there are many students who have lost their jobs or are struggling to find work this summer. That is why this benefit is so important. Whether it is businesses, not-for-profits or charities, there are many organizations that are struggling to find work.

Canada Emergency Student Benefit Act  Mr. Speaker, obviously we are working through this crisis together. We are making sure that students have the supports they need and the opportunities that are available to them. There are many industries, businesses and organizations I have been talking to that have been struggling during normal times to find workers and are continuing to do so during this crisis.

Canada Emergency Student Benefit Act  Mr. Speaker, it is my privilege to be able to rise in the House today and speak to this important topic in the midst of a global pandemic and an economic crisis that has occupied us all over the last months. It is so important that Parliament is able to meet so that we can discuss and improve legislation to ensure support reaches all Canadians who need it.

Visually Impaired Canadians  Madam Speaker, like many of my colleagues, one of my favourite aspects of this career is connecting with people across my riding by door knocking. During the last campaign, I met a family at the door in Kenora. They have an amazing five-year-old daughter named Jo-Hannah. She is intelligent.

Forestry Industry  Mr. Speaker, forestry contributes over $20 billion to the Canadian economy and employs over 200,000 people. The industry also plays a role in protecting our environment, as forest products are an effective way of storing captured carbon. This is why many Canadians are concerned with the Liberal plan to restrict 25% of Canada's land from development.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, the member said that his government cleared the backlog for EI claims, yet I have heard from members who are seeing serious wait times for EI claims and are told that staff will get to them when they can. Could the member tell us what the current timeline is for an EI claim?

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, the matter we are debating today is a very important. We must ensure we have a robust debate and ensure we get it right. I think all members of the House would agree with that. Does the member agree that this should be sent to a committee as well, that a study should be undertaken to ensure there is a comprehensive review of the EI sickness benefits so we get it right for all Canadians?

Public Safety  Mr. Speaker, the member for Thunder Bay—Rainy River raised concerns from his constituents on the proposed Liberal gun ban. These concerns include the following: so-called military-style assault rifles are already banned and have been for decades; the policy focuses on the style and not the function of firearms, and law-abiding hunters and sport shooters fear losing their guns arbitrarily; this program will be costly and have no impact on crime and; the entire process bypasses debate and democracy.
