Citizenship and Immigration committee Yes, I do. I think the number speaks for itself. The staggering higher rate of refusals is a true indication of that, in my opinion.

Citizenship and Immigration committee IRCC indicates that it's not an AI system, but I strongly believe that it is. The algorithms are set up so that applications are assessed in bulk, from what I understand about this system. There is clearly a big problem with that, because, as I mentioned earlier, I strongly believe that applications—as they come in—should be assessed by a human.

Citizenship and Immigration committee I believe it plays a major role. I'm not going to say that a lot of the reasons are mostly because of racism, but I believe it plays a major role. The number speaks for itself. The rate of refusals speaks for itself. It's undeniably standing there, right in front of our very own eyes.

Citizenship and Immigration committee A lot of my clients feel that they are neglected. As an example, I have somebody who just got her permanent residency, but that took 11 years. The marriage, unfortunately, fell apart. The first time she applied, it was refused, and then I stepped in and helped her. Even the second time around, it took at least three years.

Citizenship and Immigration committee My concern with the AI system is, first of all, that the first-line approach as far as receiving the application goes should be a person. It should be a human being looking at those applications, not an AI system. An AI system would not be able to see a vulnerability where it exists.
