The clerk cannot receive other types of motions or entertain points of order, nor can they participate in debate.

Science and Research committee  The chair rules on the admissibility of motions. Procedurally it is an amendment that I think would work, but it's the chair's decision.

Science and Research committee  As a very quick update, it is on the public record that the subcommittee on committee budgets met yesterday and adopted the motion that it is granting us the travel budget needed for the travel in the spring. That does not mean the trip is approved. There is the final step for the House to actually adopt a motion to authorize the committee to travel, but the budget that we adopted is granted to us if that approval from the House comes through.

Science and Research committee  Now that SBLI has decided which budgets are granted, the whips are in a position to propose those motions or have them proposed in the House, but I have no info on when or if that might be.

Science and Research committee  That was brought up when the budget was adopted. The budget adopted by this committee was for travel during the break week in May, so that's May 21 to May 27.

Science and Research committee  If my colleague doesn't mind, I would like to interject. We realize the meeting is public, but the Committee Chair's office will make a decision on this sometime in March. We can assume that will be within a few weeks. The translation is proceeding.

Science and Research committee  Generally speaking, after witnesses have appeared, they are reminded to provide the information requested by the Committee or one of its members. Committee members may also ask me to follow up with certain witnesses. As for the deadline, if the Committee decides it's important to set one, it can do so through a motion.

Science and Research committee  Thank you, Mr. Chair. I'll go quickly. As we heard at the last meeting, the travel period from January to March 2023 is coming to a close very soon. We have not received the House's approval to travel during this period, so the chair has instructed me to begin planning for the next travel period, which is April to June 2023.

Science and Research committee  The motion reads: That, as part of its study on scientific research and publication in French, the Committee allocates one more meeting, Monday, November 28th, in order to allow witnesses who did not get the opportunity to participate in the current study to be heard by the Committee.

Science and Research committee  It is case by case in each one. Many emails and phone calls remain unanswered. Others provide a reason by saying that they have a conflict for all these dates. I follow up as much as I can, and at a certain point, we move on to the next ones, but each witness who declined would give a different reason.
