Statements in the House

BioChem Pharma September 15th, 2003

Mr. Speaker, I intend to obey the law. I also intend to make sure that the company respects all the commitments it made at the time it purchased BioChem Pharma.

BioChem Pharma September 15th, 2003

Mr. Speaker, I can tell you that the government has the firm intention to ensure that the commitments are respected.

Pharmaceutical Industry June 9th, 2003

Mr. Speaker, there may be a fact in there that is true, but it would be difficult to find it. On the subject generally, the member knows the committee is looking at this very subject. Let us let the committee do its work. It is hearing witnesses. It is examining the issue. It may have recommendations that are very useful. Let us wait until they arrive and consider them on their merits.

Urban Affairs June 4th, 2003

Mr. Speaker, as the hon. member knows, the Government of Canada has already identified the project in Ottawa that it will be investing in during this round of strategic infrastructure. Up to $30 million will be put into services for a project to expand the Ottawa Congress Centre which is one of the priorities of the city.

As to the future, while there have been preliminary discussions with the city on public transit, we are far from any announcement. Indeed, we are working through issues that must be resolved first. When we are in a position to make an announcement, obviously we will let people know.

Ethics May 29th, 2003

Mr. Speaker, I fail to understand why the member will not acknowledge that in November 2000 the ethics counsellor ruled on just such a phone call and said it violated no principle or ethical standard which was relevant to his work.

If that case was the same in November 2000, surely the same principle applies. I fail to see the distinction.

Ethics May 29th, 2003

Mr. Speaker, what the member overlooks is that this very kind of case was before the ethics counsellor in November 2000, who reported in writing that such a call did not violate any principle or standard which was relevant to the ethics counsellor's work.

Will the member take that into account and recognize we are dealing with exactly the same issue?

Statistics Act May 28th, 2003

moved for leave to introduce Bill S-13, an act to amend the Statistics Act.

(Motions deemed adopted, bill read the first time and printed)

The Economy May 27th, 2003

Mr. Speaker, we were delighted to announce today that we will be investing, along with the government of the province of Ontario, $300 million to improve the Windsor-Detroit gateway which is essential to the economy of Canada and particularly to the economy of Ontario.

This money will be used to broaden access routes, to provide additional access routes, to overcome traffic difficulties that are already in place, and to advance discussions toward future developments that will ensure that this essential gateway remains open and functioning efficiently. This announcement has been well received by industry as well as by the community. It is a great day for Windsor and for Canada.

Auberge Grand-Mère May 27th, 2003

Mr. Speaker, these matters have long since been looked into. The relevant facts are on the record. It should be well known to the member.

Auberge Grand-Mère May 27th, 2003

Mr. Speaker, the member makes reference to events that have been looked into and investigated. Questions have been asked and answered. There is nothing new in what he is raising.
